January 19, 2014 Speaker: Brent Small
Topic: Giving Passage: 2 Corinthians 9:1–9:9
In this sermon podcast on 2 Corinthians 9:1-9; Pastor Brent offers five “biblical principles” that must guide our giving as believers.
As Paul pens his second letter to the Corinthian church, the subject of Christian giving was clearly on his mind. Both the churches in Macedonia and in Achaia, which included the Corinthian church, had been eager to contribute financially to the relief of the saints especially the saints in the Jerusalem church.
Having received the grace of God in salvation, that very same grace was fueling a deep-seated desire on the behalf of these churches to give back to God from the financial resources that He had blessed them with. Paul boasts of their giving and the zeal with which they were giving. However, he takes the opportunity to remind them of some specific biblical principles that must guide their giving.
As Paul’s message in chapter 9 is unpacked, one can clearly see several biblical principles emerge from the text that apply to all Christian of all times concerning the motive and the method by which they worship God in giving back to Him and to support His ministry in the local church.
In this sermon, Pastor Brent unfolds five “biblical principles” that must guide our giving with the specific goal of renewing and revitalizing the act of giving amongst God’s people.
