Examining Your Spiritual Barometer, Pt. 4

July 29, 2012 Speaker: Brent Small

Topic: Self-Examination Passage: Hebrews 12:1–12:2

In this sermon podcast on Hebrews 12:1-2, Pastor Brent identifies 4 “principles” in running the race of the Christian life.

In Hebrews 12, the author of Hebrews metaphorically describes the Christian life as a race. The author also goes on to give us several principles of how we are to run this race. Those principles include: running the race, surrounding oneself with motivation, lightening our load and fixing our eyes on Christ. Each of these principles are a measuring rod to determine if we are running and how well we are doing.

The quality of our race speaks volumes about our spiritual condition. If we are not running, then our faith is either no faith at all or faith that is not growing. If we are running but weighed down by the things of this world and also sin that entangles us, then we are not running the race of our Christian life in a way as to win. If we are running under our own strength and not fixing our eyes upon Christ, then we run in vain.

How are you running your own Christian race? In this message Pastor Brent gives us 4 “principles” in running the race of the Christian life. These principles should be used as measuring rods to determine our spiritual condition and the quality of our faith.
