May 6, 2012 Speaker: Brent Small
Topic: Church Passage: 1 Thessalonians 5:14–5:14
In this sermon podcast on First Thessalonians 5:14-15, Pastor Brent highlights “5” methods through which church members can care for one another.
As the Apostle Paul began his concluding exhortations to this young church he turned his attention to the ongoing spiritual health of the church. Beginning in First Thessalonians 5:12 and extending all the way to verse 22, Paul delivers God’s recipe for a healthy church. This recipe features key relationships that are found within the church: 1) the relationship between church leader and church member, 2) the relationship amongst church members and 3) the relationship of the individual church member with his or her God.
First, in verses 12-13, the Apostle taught that a spiritually healthy church is one where the relationship between the church leaders or elders and the church members is marked by peace. Now, in verses 14-15, Paul commanded the Thessalonian church members to care for one another. If this young church was to be a spiritually healthy church that would foster their spiritual growth together, the members themselves must reach out and care for one another’s spiritual needs.
In these two verses, the Apostle gives us the methodology of members caring for one another. In this message, Pastor Brent highlights “5” key methods through which members can care for one another’s spiritual needs.
