The Wonder of Christ’s Humiliation
Topic: Incarnation Passage: Philippians 2:1–2:8
In this sermon podcast, Pastor Brent unfolds 4 “condescending steps” of Christ’s humiliation that infuse your Christmas with a Christ-honoring essence.
The Christmas season is filled with festive decor. Lights, decorations, trees, food, parties and gifts add a festive element to the entire month of December. This festive decor adds a joyful aspect to the celebration of Christmas, however it can also be very dangerous.
The festive decor of Christmas can become the essence of one’s Christmas celebration leaving Christ out altogether. Often the festive decor of Christmas only becomes the external trappings that wrap a theologically deficient view of the babe in the manger.
How do I as a Christian make Christ the center of my Christmas? How will my Christmas season be filled with an eternal joy only found in Christ that does not end in disappointment or discouragement?
At the center of the Christmas season we must find the truth that God became a man. Yes, the eternal Son of God would stoop into the creation and take on humanity! The implications of this gloriously humiliating act will provide the Christmas season with a rich essence that will never discourage or end in disappointment.
Having considered the virgin birth and its dramatic implications, we must examine and meditate on the humiliation of Christ in His incarnation. To truly understand what happened in Bethlehem’s stable, we must gaze at Christ’s descent from the throne room of heaven to His death at Calvary.
