A Reverberating Thankfulness

November 20, 2016 Speaker: Brent Small Series: Independent Sermons

Topic: Thankful Passage: 1 Timothy 1:12–1:17

In this sermon podcast on 1 Timothy 1:12-17, Pastor Brent strums 2 “musical notes” in your heart so that thankfulness will reverberate throughout your life.

As Americans, we are blessed to celebrate a holiday for the giving of thanks. The Thanksgiving holiday originated in the thought of giving thanks to God for His gracious provision in the harvest. Certainly, we are compelled to give thanks to God for every earthly provision and for the material prosperity that He lavishes upon us.

However, should that be the central focus of our thankfulness as believers? As we peer into God’s word, we find that the life of a Christian should reverberate with thankfulness. From our hearts, to our lips to our actions we should continually express and reflect the attitude of thankfulness.

Knowing this to be true, how or what is the deep inner resources from which this thankfulness should flow? Fortunately, we have both a model and a personal testimony of a thankful life in the Apostle Paul. The Pauline Epistles alone teem with Paul’s thankfulness as it reverberates through his heart, life, speech and letters.

Diving into the Scripture, we find Paul’s life of thankfulness and the deep inner resource from which it flowed. In 1 Timothy 1:12-17, the Apostle exposes this resource. It plays as musical notes in his heart and it becomes infectious to ours as well. May the song of thankfulness in Paul’s heart be the song that gets stuck in our hearts reverberating with thankfulness in every aspect of our lives.
