The Election that Really Matters
Topic: Election Passage: 2 Thessalonians 2:13–2:14
In this sermon podcast on 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14, Pastor Brent exposes 4 “essential qualities” of your salvation that call you to cultivate gratitude in your life.
For nearly 250 years, Americans have enjoyed the privilege of voting for their government leaders. This voting right is a privilege rare in human history, one that we should be thankful for. Every election brings out anxiety and fear for many people in the United States. Many people even think the country will fold and the world will come to an end if his or her candidate does not get elected.
While some see each election as a dark day without hope, the darkest day that will be catastrophic and without hope is still coming. That day is known as the Day of the Lord. The darkness that surrounds this day includes the judgment of the unbelieving. As Paul reminds the Thessalonians of the signs of this day, one of the keys signs is the delusion of the unbelieving.
The unbelieving, those who will not receive the love of the truth, and be saved will go into judgment in outer darkness. This is a terrible thought. However, it is against the backdrop of this thought that Paul explodes with thankfulness to God for the salvation of the Thessalonian believers. The judgment of the unbelieving is as dark as night but Paul breaks that darkness with the dawn of salvation that they have received from God.
The great hope of their salvation not only causes the darkness of the Day of the Lord to flee, it also causes Paul to burst forth in gratitude to God for their salvation! Not just for their salvation, but also the essential qualities of that salvation. God saved them by His grace, His election, His sanctification and His gospel! What a glorious thought for all believers.
The essential nature of God’s salvation, when considered against the backdrop of the Day of the Lord, should cause us to teem with gratitude. Are you grateful for your salvation? In this message, Pastor Brent will not only expose the essential qualities of salvation but call you to commit to cultivate your gratitude for it.
