The Gospel Good News

November 8, 2015 Speaker: Brent Small Series: Independent Sermons

Topic: Gospel Passage: Ephesians 2:1–2:10

In this sermon podcast on Ephesians 2:1-10; Pastor Brent offers us three “saving acts” performed by God in salvation so that we will have the right perspective of the “good news.”

For every Christian the good news of the gospel is our most precious possession. It is the message that God sent His Son Jesus to become a man and to die on a cross; Jesus was then buried in a tomb and raised again as a sacrifice for sin. This is the best news to a lost and sinful mankind. However, for this news to really be “good news” we must look at it from the right perspective.

The good news and the salvation it offers must be seen in the light of God’s sovereignty. Salvation in the life of the believer is completely and totally a work of God. God chooses, predestines, redeems, seals, justifies and sanctifies every believer. No one is saved on his or her own merit; rather, we are saved absolutely and totally by the powerful and divine work of God.

Understanding our salvation from God’s perspective offers us power to live out the Christian life. Because God has saved us to make us alive with Christ, we can overcome sin, live holy lives, fulfill the good works that he has prepared for us and boldly proclaim the gospel.

Do you have the right perspective of the gospel? Of your salvation? God is the one who saves.
