True Discipleship, Pt. 2
Passage: John 8:21–8:38
In this sermon podcast on John 8:21-38, Pastor Brent identifies three “God-given” marks that define a true follower of Christ.
As Jesus continues to interact with the crowd in Jerusalem, His teaching becomes more authoritative and the consequences for rejecting Him continue to increase. After declaring that He is the Light of the World, Jesus now again calls the Jews to believe upon Him. However, there is a key aspect of His nature that they must believe in: His deity.
If the Jews are to follow Christ, become true disciples, they must embrace His identity as God, being equal with the Father. As Jesus teaches, John records that some believe. However, what kind of belief are they exhibiting? Is it authentic and true? Are they really following Christ?
In this text, Jesus offers us three marks of a true follower of Christ. He explains true discipleship. The marks are clear and unmistakable. In part 2 of this series, Pastor Brent seeks to identify the third and final mark so that you might become a true disciple.
