The Bread of Life, Pt. 1
Passage: John 6:1–6:15
In this sermon podcast on John 6:1-15, Pastor Brent seeks to unfold the drama of the feeding of the 5,000 through the eyes of the disciples, the crowd and Jesus in order to set the stage for the discourse on the bread of life.
Six months after the events of John chapter 5 come to a close, Jesus seeks seclusion on the eastern side of the Sea of Galilee. As the hostility to His ministry continues to rise, Jesus looks for a place to get a way with His disciples for a time of rest and further instruction. However, there seclusion is short-lived.
As John states at the beginning of chapter 6, the crowds who are motivated by Jesus’ healing ministry, come looking for Jesus. They make the trip around the northern shore of the sea on foot and find Jesus. The synoptic gospels tell us that Jesus had compassion on them, teaching them and healing their sick.
And as evening approached, Jesus was about to perform another powerful sign that will testify to His identity as the Son of God and also set the stage for His discourse on the “bread of life.”
In this sermon, Pastor Brent seeks to unfold this drama through the eyes of the crowd, the disciples and Jesus, Himself.
