We Must Be Born Again, Pt. 2
Passage: John 3:4–3:8
In this sermon podcast on John 3:4-8; Pastor Brent gives us the second of four “key truths” that are necessary to enter the kingdom of God.
The kingdom of God is a kingdom of salvation. God’s kingdom is one where his transforming and saving reign is found and experienced. There are keys to enter this kingdom. In the story of Jesus’ encounter with Nicodemus, Jesus unfolds these keys for us.
Nicodemus was a leader of religious leaders in Israel. He was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, the ruling body of Israel. Nicodemus perceived along with others that Jesus was a unique man sent by God. Nicodemus came looking or Jesus’ to further reveal his identity but Jesus’ does not give him any further information about himself. Instead, Jesus begins to unfold to Nicodemus that he has a perception problem.
Nicodemus surely thought that he already was a member of God’s kingdom but he was trusting in the wrong things. Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be “born again.” To enter the kingdom, Nicodemus must receive the gift of “regeneration.” This need is not just for Nicodemus, it is for every sinner who desire salvation and entrance to God’s kingdom.
