God’s Promises: An Anchor of Our Hope, Pt. 3
Topic: God’s Promises Passage: 1 Thessalonians 4:13–4:18
In this sermon podcast on First Thessalonians 4:13-18, Pastor Brent delivers a final message in this series considering the timing of the rapture of the church.
In this third and final message on 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Pastor Brent considers a final question that this passage raises, “What will be the timing of the rapture of the church?” For two weeks we considered how the promises of God contained in this section anchor the believer’s hope during times of grief over the death of a fellow brother or sister in Christ. One of those key promises includes the rapture of the church; however, as Paul unfolds this glorious event he does not give a lot of details as to when it will occur. In fact, Scripture gives no direct statement as to its timing, only that is specific day and hour are “unknown.”
However, Scripture does give evidence to a time-frame within the End Time events in which the rapture of the church will occur. The timing of the rapture hinges on the tribulation period, and the description of Christ’s Second Coming as detailed in Revelation 19. In this message, Pastor Brent makes a case for a “pre-tribulational” rapture by contrasting Christ’s coming for the church in the rapture and His Second Coming to establish His millennial kingdom on the earth. A comparison of the two events provides much evidence that the rapture is a separate event at a separate time. This fact alone along with other promises of Christ lead us to conclude that Scripture gives evidence to a pre-tribulational rapture.
