Do You Love the Church, Pt. 4
Passage: 1 Thessalonians 3:11–3:13
In this sermon podcast on 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13, Pastor Brent once again attempts to fan the flames of our love for the church by calling all believers to prayer and offering “3” petitions to be prayed to God for the purpose of obtaining greater love.
Paul energized by Timothy’s report of the Thessalonians faith working through love now turns in these final verses of chapter 3 and prays that God the Father and Jesus Christ will increase the Thessalonians love for one another and for all people. Love was the clearest manifestation of the Thessalonians faith and now Paul prays that Christ would increase that love. Paul also prays that the Father and the Son will clear a path for him to return to the Thessalonians and supply what was missing in their faith.
However, this section is dominated by the desire for increased love. Why? Because, the Thessalonians love would be used by God to sanctify their hearts, separating their hearts and lives from sin in preparation for the coming of Christ and their appearance before their God. This prayer of Paul serves to motivate all believers to seek greater love as supplied by Christ through the conduit of prayer.
