Do You Love the Church, Pt. 2
Passage: 1 Thessalonians 3:1–3:5
In this sermon podcast on 1 Thessalonians 3:1-5, Pastor Brent fans the flame of our love for the church by delivering “3” expressions of love for the church as modeled by the Apostle Paul.
The Apostle Paul along with Silas and Timothy had preached the gospel in Thessalonica and a church was born. The church immediately encountered stiff persecution for their faith as recorded by Luke in Acts 17. Paul, his life under threat, fled the city under the darkness of night. Paul was deeply grieved by his separation from the Thessalonian church. He describes this separation using a word that carried the idea of being “orphaned” from them.
Knowing the Thessalonians were still vulnerable to persecution and temptation in their new faith, Paul desperately tried to get back to the church to strengthen their faith but was hindered by Satan through the enemies of the church. In chapter 3 Paul continues to reveal his heart. He can no longer endure not knowing the condition of their faith so Paul goes into action.
In this message Pastor Brent explains Paul’s purpose to in sending Timothy back to the church to strengthen and encourage them in their faith. Paul’s actions become a model for all believers of his love for the church. In these verses Paul’s love for the church expresses itself in three specific ways that encourage our own love for the church.
