Missions

Our Philosophy

Cascades Bible Church is committed to take the gospel to the nations in fulfillment of Jesus’ command found in Matthew 28:19-20. We believe that the local church is the conduit from which the gospel should flow to the local community and also to the nations. Based on the commands given by the Lord in Matthew 28:19-20, we intend to support missionaries of like philosophy and doctrine who are committed to the following:

  1. Intentional evangelistic efforts that proclaim a biblical gospel;
  2. Baptism of new believers by immersion;
  3. Discipleship ministry aimed at maturing new believers by teaching them the whole counsel of God.

Currently, Cascades has the privilege of sending out a missionary to the immigrant communities of London.

Doug Bodlien, Missionary to London

Doug Bodlien was born in February 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland. When his grandfather passed away in 1953 Doug began to think about spiritual things. In God’s sovereignty, Doug heard and believed the gospel of Jesus Christ at the age of six years old.

Doug grew up in Howard County, Maryland and graduated from Howard County High School in 1965. In 1969 Doug graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee with a BA in Mathematics and also holds a Masters Degree in Mathematics from George Mason University.

He worked for the Navy Department for three years and then for Computer Sciences Corporation for 33 years. Doug was married for 33 years to his wife Bonnie who passed away in 2002 from cancer. Doug has 3 children and 16 grandchildren.

God used four short term mission trips with Operation Mobilization to draw Doug toward applying to join OM full time. He moved to Tyrone, Georgia in August 2008 to work in the IT Department of the OM USA Headquarters. As he served with OM, Doug continued to pray seeking how the Lord might use him full-time on the mission field.

While working with OM, Doug has been volunteering in churches with ministry to children and middle school age youth. He taught Sunday school for one year at Cascades Bible. He has been a volunteer Young Life leader for the past seven years helping with WyldLife, the middle school ministry of Young Life.

In December of 2010 the Lord opened a door for Doug. He joined a short-term mission trip to the immigrant communities of London to do outreach and serve in two local church plants. After returning to Atlanta, the OM office in London contacted Doug and offered him an opportunity to serve in their ministry full-time. Doug accepted that offer and will transition to London in July of 2011.

Doug will be engaged in a unique ministry opportunity. He will be living and ministering in a community in London that is nearly 100% populated by immigrants from the Middle East and Africa. Many of these individuals are Muslim in belief. So, while living in London, Doug’s main focus will not be on the English but on those immigrants who have settled in London.

Doug will be serving under the leadership of the OM team in London who have launched two church plants in the northwest part of London. He will be engaged in gospel outreach, teaching and discipleship of youth at a bi-lingual English-Arabic church plant, training in outreach to Muslim communities and seeking new opportunities for ministry in the local community.

Supporting Doug

The first way you can support Doug is through prayer. Please pray for Doug in the following ways:

  1. Pray that he will obtain his visa and complete all the final details to get to London by July 1.
  2. Pray that the Lord would prepare the harvest by opening the hearts of those whom Doug will interact and share the gospel.
  3. Pray for Doug’s training. Pray that he would be further equipped to minister the gospel in these Muslim communities.
  4. Pray that God will open new doors of opportunity for Doug and his team to share the gospel.
  5. Pray for Doug’s spiritual strength and encouragement.
  6. Pray that the Lord would give Doug bold courage to share the gospel.
  7. Pray that Doug will be a testimony of Christ in all that he does.

The second way you can support Doug is financially. If you would like to support his ministry through OM, you can send checks to:
